Retiree Group Medicare Plans

Before you do anything else, find out if your employer, union, or pension fund offers a Retiree Group Medicare plan. Access to this valuable coverage can make a big difference when it comes time to make your Medicare decision.

Retiree Group Medicare Plans

More benefits, more savings for retirees and their spouses

Retiree Group Medicare plans are not available to everyone. But for those who have this choice, it’s often the best option. Here’s why:

  • Your costs can be lower because – like your workplace plan – your employer or union generally contribute funds.
  • If eligible, your spouse may choose coverage under your employer-sponsored plan as well.
  • There’s no need to “shop” for a plan; all the work has been done by your employer or benefit administrator.

Find out if you have access to a Retiree Group Medicare plan as early as you can. In fact, it’s best if you meet with your employer or benefit administrator as soon as you start thinking about retirement. This meeting may play an important part in your retirement and Medicare decisions.

Important: If you do not join a Retiree Group Medicare plan when you are first eligible – or during Open Enrollment – you will not be able to opt in later.

Every Retiree Group Medicare plan is different

Retiree Group Medicare offerings can include Part C Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans, and prescription drug plans. Employers can customize a Medicare benefit package to meet the needs of their retirees. These plans often provide important benefits like vision, dental and hearing services, which aren’t included with Original Medicare.

Enrollment in Medicare Part A and/or Part B is required to join any Retiree Group Medicare plan your employer or benefit administrator may offer.

Retiree Group Medicare options differ. Use this discussion guide to learn more about your coverage options.

Find out if you have a retiree group Medicare plan option

The easiest way to learn more about your retiree group Medicare plan options is to reach out to your employer or benefit administrator. And if you haven’t done so already, be sure to request your Medicare Timeline, too.
